As a private co-ed boarding school with an elite Air Force JROTC program, Randolph-Macon Academy (R-MA) is an excellent summer school option for any middle or high school student! We give students tools for success during and after their time at our academy, at both the Middle and Upper School levels. Located in Front Royal in Warren County, R-MA’s 135-acre campus offers resources that allow students to develop their intellectual knowledge as well as their ability to lead and develop a stronger sense of character and responsibility. Our summer school programs – which take place between June 24 and July 23, 2021 – are in-person and on-campus this year, with the safety of our students remaining our top priority.

Key Takeaways of R-MA’s Summer Programs
R-MA students have many good reasons to enroll in our Summer Programs, both in and out of the classroom. For one, Upper School students will receive transferable high school credits once they’ve successfully completed their courses, which are designed to cover important concepts within a shorter time frame. They can also take part in our Aviation Explorers program, one of the most popular summer programs at our school. In this program, students receive and education in both Drone Applications and Flight Training. For our Middle School students, they can take classes that can enrich their academic experience prior to Upper School, as well as learn how to become better students and more responsible online users. Better yet, students can take part in a variety of fun, safe, staff-supervised activities both on and off-campus.
Here are some more unique benefits of our summer school:
- Courses like English, Computer Science, Biology, World Religions, and two History courses (Modern World History and United States History) are available during summer
- A Flight and Drones Summer Program available to students in Middle School, where they can fly drones and practice with our flight simulator
- R-MA’s Robotics program, where Middle School students learn to use LEGO MINDSTORM® EV3 software to code and complete missions
- Our Study Skills class, which teaches Middle School students about developing good study habits, as well as skills in note-taking, writing, researching, reading, and organization
- Middle School students use our mentoring program to learn about safe practices (e.g. privacy, security, digital footprints) for becoming more responsible digital users
- Upper School students can choose between one or two courses over a span of four weeks, depending on the course being taken
- Trips off-campus are provided to students every Saturday, including trips to Washington DC and Shenandoah National Park, as well as bowling, movie theaters, and roller skating
- Flight classes also available as part of a wider set of summer electives for Upper School students
- Transferable high school credits for Upper School students who successfully complete their Summer Program courses
- Certain courses available to Upper School students (e.g. Math, Science, History, World Languages) can either be used as new courses for original credit or repeat courses for grade improvement
